CACC Preschool

For over 40 years, , CACC has provided student-led preschool programs to Sangamon County families

CACC Preschool is a quarter-day program open to all 3-5 year-olds.

Our Philosophy

The Capital Area Career Preschool is a program that serves children ages 3-5 and promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.

The unique feature of the Capital Area Career Center Preschool is the direct involvement of high school students.  Students are active in planning, preparing, and directing activities with the children.

A Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum and Practice provide for all areas of child development.  Children learn through active exploration and interaction with other children, adults, and materials.

Child-initiated, child-directed, teacher-supported play is an essential component of a developmentally appropriate curriculum.  Learning takes place as children touch, manipulate and experiment with materials and objects as well as interact with people.  Children learn through doing!  Learning experiences will include such areas as Language, Music, Art, Sensory, Math, Science, Fine & Gross Motor Skills, and other areas.  An Interest Center approach, as well as small and large group activities, will be used.

Our Goals

  • To help children develop positive self-esteem.
  • To value children’s play as a critical component of their growth and development.
  • To provide an environment for exploration and learning.
  • To provide experiences that help children grow emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively.
  • To provide opportunities for creative exploration through art, music, and movement.
  • To facilitate and guide children as they participate in experiences.
  • To encourage freedom of expression.
  • To encourage children to be curious, ask questions, problem-solve, and work together.
  • To encourage socialization.
  • To encourage sharing and cooperation.
  • To help each child recognize the rights, feelings, and property of others.
  • To encourage a positive feeling towards learning.
  • To provide a positive environment outside the home and assist each child in adapting to new situations and adults other than their parents.
  • To build a positive educational foundation and make each child’s first school experience a positive one.
